Knowing the Will of God!

Scripture
“If you do not carefully observe all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and awesome name, THE Lord YOUR GOD, Deuteronomy 28:58; If we say we have no sin, we are fooling ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, he will forgive our sins, because we can trust God to do what is right. He will cleanse us from all the wrongs we have done. If we say we have not sinned, we make God a liar, and we do not accept God’s teaching. 1 John 1:8‭-‬10

If ever we say we don’t know the will of God… It’s because we ignore His word. His word is alive and vibrant. It’s within the pages of His Holy Word; The Holy Bible.

Obeying God blesses us. By obeying Him the blessings will come and stay with us.

We mustn’t be in denial that we’re a sinful people. We can accept that and then confess our sins so that He will forgive us and cleanse us. Otherwise, we are in essence saying God is a liar. It’s impossible for God to lie. So, we’re the ones in the wrong, not God.

We must stop being in denial of the Truth of God and start submitting to Him and obeying Him. We must surrender our selfish, self-centeredness to Him. We must stop limiting Him in our lives. It’s easy. Just do it! (My [Kimberly’s] favorite quote by Nike, the shoe company!)

There are no excuses. We must wake up to ourselves and realize that we’re holding God back in our lives. We also must realize that we’re unable to save ourselves. There’s nothing we can do to save ourselves. God doesn’t need our help.

Be blessed by the BEST, God!

Dear Adonai, Abba Yah, I pray for forgiveness of sins I don’t even realize I’m committing as well as the readers of this devo blog. Also, blatant sins that we know we’re doing and are just being complacent of them and ignoring the truth of the matter and being defiant toward You. Show us the way, the truth, to You. Thank You in advance, Abba Yah, for hearing and answering this prayer. In Jesus’ name, amen.

City Officials

Scripture

It seems that those instructions in today’s scripture are still happening except, many of the judges and officers are corrupt! It’s a hot mess! When God is taken out of the public corruption is bound to take place. We need to get God back into all the places He’s been taken out of.

How; you wonder? Well, I believe we need to stand up for God, not back down. We need to stand firm on God’s word. We must stop allowing ourselves to be bullied by the corrupt people who push us around. We need to be in God’s word to gain a foothold. We need to be in communion with God, every day. Not when it suits us.

Dear Adonai, Abba Yah, I pray for Your children to stand firm in You. I pray that we stop allowing bullies to push us around and that we can put You back into the public where you’ve been removed. Show us what to do, Yah. I pray all this in Jesus’ holy precious name, amen.

Do What Pleases God!

Scripture:

What exactly does be careful mean? The dictionary says this:
making sure of avoiding potential danger, mishap, or harm; cautious. And this:
done with or showing thought and attention.

Then there’s the part about obeying. It’s important that we submit to God’s authority. Going against Him leads to danger and mishaps in our lives. Which we see in the definition of careful; we want to avoid potential danger or mishaps. The whole thing is a “no duh” to me. I don’t know about others. What do you think this scripture means about being careful and obeying God?

In the last part of the verse, it informs us that we would be pleasing God when we do what is good and right.

I rather like to please God. Don’t you? It would make things in life move along better.

To be pleasing to God I must be in His word. I must apply His word to my life. I must work at being righteous and be like Christ. What would you do?

Dear Father God, make it known, without question, what I need to be doing to please You. I also pray the readers of this blog to be blessed and to be pleasing to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

A Warning From God

Scripture:

God is warning the people. This warning is relevant to current day as well. Why?

One, because people are just as rebellious and forgetful today of God’s commands, promises, and blessings. Two, because people want to do things in their own steam. Three, people simply don’t trust God.

We’re hoodwinked by satan. He disguises himself like Granny, our best friend, or some sort of tasty food we really like. That being said, satan is good at mimicking and lying.

We, for some odd reason, believe lies told to us as if they are the truth. Therein lies the rub.

Why do we do that? Please leave a comment or a prayer request.

One reason I believe that we believe the lies is because we lack the true understanding of God’s word. The second reason, I believe is because people are rebellious. Just like a little kid who wants their way. Finally, a question for us; what then should we do?

Application:

  • Pray continually.
You can do this with your eyes open. That way you can pray while you’re driving, etc.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says this: Always be joyful. Pray continually, and give thanks whatever happens. That is what God wants for you in Christ Jesus.
  • Spend personal quiet time with God studying His word and talking with Him.
You can do this anytime. There are no hard and fast rules on when and where to do this. I do it mostly in the early morning. Sometimes, though, I do it in the middle of the day or even at night.
  • Get together with other fellow Christians; fellowship, worship, and praise God together. Be uplifting and encouraged by what you gain from this. Be very careful about fake Christianity, however. You will be led astray faster than you can say, “Hippity Hoppity”. Being in The Word and praying to God will make it very clear when you’re in the presence of fake Christians.
  • Make sure you’re attending services and being fed by a shepherd of God’s word. The previous bullet point comment about fake Christianity stands here also. False teaching is everywhere these days. Know the difference.

Prayer: Dear Father God, I lift up the readers of this blog. I pray for their spiritual well being and that they would seek You in all their coming in and going out. Thank You for Your word to help keep us on track. Thank You for Jesus being our Salvation. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Elizabeth Gives Birth to John the Baptist

John the Baptist is Born image
A few months later, after Mary went back to Nazareth, Elizabeth gave birth to the son she had always hoped for. She named him ‘John’. Luke 1:57-66

Everyone was very happy and excited for her.

She did quite well for an elderly woman giving birth.

There was a discussion among family about the baby’s name and what it would be. They decided his name would be after his father, Zechariah. However, Elizabeth quickly corrected them. She was adamant, his name is “John”. Afterall, this is what Gabriel the angel gave instruction to.

Zechariah now able to speak. This baby would one day be a prophet of the Most High, he said, preparing the way for the Messiah.

This picture is the last we see of Elizabeth. By the examples of the time, she was already old, and she might not have lived to see John grow to adulthood.

So, the main takeaway from this story is that being patient and waiting on the Lord brings great blessings.

How are you doing in your waiting time? Share and bless others with your experience.

Esther: For Such a Time as This

Queen Esther image

Listen to this segment: “Esther: For Such a Time as This” on Anchor for the short audio version.

‘Esther’ means ‘hidden’ – her Jewish identity was hidden from the King. Esther’s Jewish name Hadassah, means ‘myrtle’, a tree whose leaves release their fragrance when crushed.

Queen Esther’s story has three parts:

  1. Vashti was banished, and Esther became Queen.
Queen Vashti disobeyed the orders of her husband King Ahasuerus, so he divorced her. Lonely, he sought a new queen who was to be the most beautiful woman in the land. A young Jewish orphan, Esther, was chosen. She kept her Jewish identity secret. Her cousin Mordecai, a servant of the king, overheard a plot and warned his master through Esther.
  2. Esther saved Mordecai from Haman.
Mordecai offended a high court official called Haman, who decided to kill not only Mordecai but all the Jews in the Persian empire (the first recorded slaughter against the Jews). Esther turned the tables on Mordecai. She pleaded with the king at two banquets she gave, and Haman was horribly punished. He was hanged on the very gallows he had built for Mordecai.
  3. Esther saved the Jewish people.
Letters were sent throughout the kingdom revoking the order and the Jewish people in Persia were saved. There was great rejoicing, and an annual festival was celebrated to remember the courage of Esther and the deliverance of the Jews. This festival was called Purim.

Why did Esther’s story mean so much to Jews?

  • Esther was a symbol of Jews who lived successfully in an alien culture.
  • As a woman, she was not in a position of power, just as Diaspora Jews were not members of the power elite.
  • As an orphan, she was separated from her parents, as Diaspora Jews are separated from their mother-country.
  • With both these handicaps, she had to use every skill and advantage she had, as Diaspora Jews did. They, like Esther, had to adapt themselves to the situation.

What are the main themes in Esther’s story?

  • Let God be your ruler: Esther’s story was a political ridicule, showing the danger of giving absolute power to someone who might be a fool. Ahasuerus governed by whim rather than by wisdom, becoming the tool of anyone shrewd enough to exploit him. The lesson is clear: do not give too much power to any one person; in the long run, God alone should rule us.
  • Right Living: the Book of Esther was written for Diaspora Jews (Jews who lived outside Israel), to show them how to live in exile. If they encountered bigotry and prejudice, they must act with courage, wisdom, and integrity.
  • The origin of Purim: the story explained the origin of a major Jewish feast day.

Christianity is sometimes accused of causing the anti-Semitism that has shamed the modern world. This story shows this prejudice existed long before the birth of Jesus.

The book of Esther doesn’t suggest that the goal of proper Jewish living is to return to Judah; rather, it encourages the idea that Jews can live personally fulfilling, and even socially successful, lives in exile from Palestine. It asks who are we; if we not only don’t live in Judah but also don’t even want to?’

Life Lessons

  • Esther’s courage and wisdom were used by God to save His people from extinction.
  • Beauty and creativity are also useful tools for a God-fearing woman.
