My takeaway:
The ancient ancestors spent a lot of time worshipping idols. God told them they had to choose between Him or their idols.
He already gave us the Ten Commandments. One of those commandments was to have no other gods before Him. It seems like a “no duh” thing. However, He does give us a choice.
Well, the people replied in v. 16: “We would never abandon the Lord and serve other gods.” Just before that, Joshua said, “But, as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”
I do too! I serve Yahweh! It’s our choice. Whatever the choice, we will reap the consequences of that choice.
Let’s remember what God has done, is doing, and will continue doing as He says He will. Remember His blessings & promises. He “is” faithful! How shall we accomplish this? How will we apply this to our lives?
- First, we must give up all our idols.
They do us no good! - Second, we replace those idols with
a. God’s word.
b. Prayer.
c. Christian family fellowship, praise, and worship to HIM only.
d. Becoming a disciple of Him and sharing the Gospel of Jesus to help lead the lost sheep to the Shepherd/Jesus. - Finally, if you’re one of those lost sheep being brought into the fold/family of GOD, reach out to me so I can pray with and for you, help you find a Christian family if you don’t have one, yet, and to make sure you don’t fall through the cracks and get forgotten.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Yahweh, El Shaddai, I lift up those who are on the precipice teetering one way or the other, ready to go which way or another. I pray that they lean into YOU. I pray they find peace in YOU and serve only YOU. Thank You, Yahweh, for all those reading today’s scripture and devotion. I pray they are blessed. Thank You, Yahweh, in advance, for hearing and answering this prayer. In Jesus’ name, amen.
