Turning To A Different Gospel

galatians 1:1-9 image

SCRIPTURE:
Paul, an apostle—not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead— and all the brothers who are with me, To the churches of Galatia: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen. I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed. Galatians 1:1-9

OBSERVATION:

  • What do I see in the verses I’m reading?
    • The apostle Paul is greeting and speaking to the Galatians.
    • Paul is astonished that the believers in Galatia have so quickly deserted him and God and turned to a different gospel, no that there is another one, but there are some who want to distort the true Gospel of Jesus Christ.
    • Let the one preaching a false gospel be accursed.
  • Who is the audience?
    • the church of Galatia
  • What words are repeated?
    • Jesus Christ
    • preach
    • gospel
    • grace
  • What words stand out to me?
    • ^ words just above
  • What is the main lesson or theme?
    • Preach the true Gospel of Jesus Christ

APPLICATION:

When God’s Word becomes personal

  • What is God saying to me today?
    • This is critical. If what is being preached and taught is contrary to what God’s Holy word says, it’s an idol [g]od (little g, because it’s not the One true Triune God) and is a fake gospel.
  • How can I apply what I just read to my life?
    • I must be in God’s word daily and pray to God (unceasingly), to have a personal relationship with Him. It is, at that point my heart and mind are opened to Him and the Holy Spirit works in and through me to share/preach/teach the true Gospel of Jesus Christ.
  • Are there any changes I need to make?
    • I need to step aside and get out of God’s way. I’m a vessel for God’s purpose. It’s about Him, not me. I’m simply a conduit for God to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is all from HIM.

PRAYER:
Dear Heavenly Father God, thank You for Your word and the free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. I pray that I don’t get in Your way to share a false gospel. I pray that I stay in Your word and share the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ by Your guidance. Whatever sin, not known nor aware to me, I’ve committed, I ask for forgiveness and strive to be a Christ Ambassador to lead lost souls to You. In Jesus’ holy and precious name, amen.

Living the New Life

Christ’s death and resurrection give us new life so we can be made right with God.

He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them. 2 Corinthians 5:15

Our focus for a new life is in heaven where Jesus sits. We do not live for ourselves after we receive Christ’s new life. Christ “is” our life. We are new in Him; so, we have no need for the old way of life.

‘You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for He forgave all our sins. For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with Him, you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.’ Colossians 2:12-13

There’s a lot of mention of death and life. That is because before Christ became our redeemer we lived in sin, which leads to spiritual death. When we accept Christ as our savior we die to the old ways when we are baptized and we receive new life; we come alive spiritually.

Because of our new spiritual life, our home is in heaven, not earth. That’s where our focus is. We live for Christ, not ourselves.

No matter what is going on around us on earth, we need to keep our eyes on the prize, Jesus Christ; who is seated on the throne in heaven. Stay the course.

Here are some things to help us do that:

  • Be in the word of GOD.
  • Pray often. Have a prayer mindset.
    • We can pray anywhere anytime.
  • Share the gospel to plant the seed of salvation.
    • God will do the rest.
  • Meet regularly to study the word of God with like-minded believers and pray together over the word and for each other.

Dear Abba YAH, I pray for all the readers of this message. I ask that if anyone needs help that these messages and prayers will guide them to You. I pray that all believers will seek You and will read and listen to Your word; being ready to give a reason for their faith in You. Help us all to live our lives for You according to Your word. Thank You for our new life in Christ. Thank You for being our savior, cutting away the sinful nature, and making us new in You. I pray all this in Jesus’ name, amen.
