The Good News: God’s Promise Prt 8

Romans 1_1-5 scripture image

  • What is going on in these verses?
    • Paul wrote to the church in Rome to present his basic statement of the gospel: God’s plan of salvation for all peoples, Jew and Gentile alike.
    • Paul had three objectives in writing this letter:
      • 1 – to teach the fundamental doctrine of salvation to fortify believers against their enemies;
      • 2 – to explain the unbelief of Israel and vindicate the faithfulness of God in his dealings with Israel; and
      • 3 – to give practical instruction concerning Christian living in the society of his day.
    • Paul communicates the details of how a person is redeemed, transformed, sealed, and sanctified for that day when we will all stand before the Lord. It explains that salvation is received by grace through faith.
  • What is God’s word saying?
    • I am not Jewish. Therefore, essentially, a Gentile. But, salvation is offered to everyone who will believe that Jesus is the Savior of the world.
    • This scripture in the book of Romans is a great handbook and guide of instructions on sharing God’s plan of salvation. I can use it to help in sharing the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus. The book of Romans is a great practical guide for Christian living.
    • There is this famous guide people like to use: “Roman’s Road to Salvation”, to help guide people through God’s Plan of salvation.
      • I’ve actually created a road of sorts through the scriptures by putting the 1st scripture piece at the beginning of my bible, then the next one at that point leading to each bit of scripture. It’s handy.
      • I also have an app on my mobile phone that is specifically Roman’s Road; in case I do not have my hard copy Bible in hand.
    • I need to totally trust God, the Holy Spirit, Jesus to lead me through this…
      • As a previous devotional blog post talked about the Holy Spirit speaks, not me. Just let Him do it!

Do you need prayer? Contact me below and I’ll pray and ask the prayer warrior team to pray also.

Prayer: Thank You, God, for the gift of Salvation. I also thank You for all Your promises and blessings. Lead me, show me, use me for Your grand plan. I pray this for all Your children, Father God. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The Good News: Be Ready; Encourage Them!

2-Timothy-4_1-5 scripture image

  • What are the details in these verses?
    • 1st, My research finds this: facing death at any moment, Paul encourages Timothy to persevere in the ministry and faithfully guard the gospel. In a very real way, this letter represents Paul’s last will and testament. Paul used his last letter to deliver exhortations to his son in the faith, which in summary tells Timothy to endure and remain loyal to Jesus just as he had told him all along.
    • 2nd, there’s a lot going on in this scripture. I’m keeping it as simple as possible and still relaying the message.
    • Next, Paul is telling Timothy to take care of God’s word and be ready to preach the Good News at any time. Also, to teach right from wrong. He is to encourage and be patient in his careful teaching. Persevere through troubles and complete all the duties of a servant of God.
    • Finally, God has the only and final say in judging us.
The work of a minister is not an indifferent thing, but absolutely necessary. Woe be to him if he preach not the gospel. Matthew Henry
  • What is God’s word telling me?
    • I’m encouraged by knowing God is in charge and has the final say. Nothing man can say or do to thwart God will happen, nor will it hinder God. God thwarts them instead. I will endure and persevere for the sake of the Gospel. I’m ready for the times when God puts people in my path to share the Good News of Jesus. What about you? Will you be ready and encouraged and join me in doing so?

Prayer: Dear Father God, thank You for who You are and what You do and continue to do for our freedom in Jesus. I pray that Your children will be effective through the Holy Spirit in sharing the Good News of the Gospel to a lost and dying world. I lift up the sick [physically, mentally, and spiritually]. I pray that whatever happens You will get the glory, be honored, loved, and adored by Your children. Use us, Lord God. I pray we are examples of Jesus exuding the fruits of the Spirit. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The Good News – The Holy Spirit Speaks Prt 6

Mark 13_10-11 scripture image

  • What is happening in these verses?
    • In my research and studying, I observed these details:
      • Mark the apostle wrote this letter, in the book of Mark, chapter 13.
      • The theme of these verses is to encourage the readers to persevere through suffering and persecution while sharing the Good News to all the earth.
      • The work they were called to should be carried on and succeed in spite of all the opposition that they would meet with while doing it. The gospel must, for all this, be told among all nations, and before the destruction of Jerusalem the sound of it must go forward into all the earth; not only through all the nation of the Jews but, to all the nations of the earth.
      • It is a comfort to those who suffer for the gospel, that, even though they may endure great suffering, the gospel cannot; it must keep going, stand firm, and carry on.
      • The Holy Spirit gives us the words we need to say. We do not have to come up with our own words to share the Good News. The Holy Spirit speaks, not us.
  • What is God’s word saying?
    • While there are assigned missionaries that go out to foreign lands and spread the Good News of the Gospel and make disciples there, there are local mission fields that still need to hear the Good News. Especially in today’s day and age of what is going on. I won’t go into details since it’s already being broadcast all over the place constantly.
    • People are lost and need to be found, by God.
    • As far as what to do; we need to “Just Do It”! Yes, my favorite quote.
        1. Be in the Word and learn what it says so we can be ready to share any time.
        2. Pray without ceasing.
        3. Feel the Holy Spirit pouring over, in, and throughout our bodies; filling us to overflowing with His love, comfort, and guidance as we endure whatever comes our way; good or bad.
        4. Team up with other believers to go out into the community to share the Good News during a project for the community.

Prayer: Thank You, Father God, for the gift of Salvation. I pray for the lost souls to be found and that the Good News of the Gospel will make it around the world. Use me, Lord, I’m here. I pray for Your children to step up to the plate and share the Gospel of Jesus. Holy Spirit, be my voice and also for Your other children. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The Good News – God Trusted Us to Do It, Prt 5

1 Thessalonians 2_2-4 image

  • What is going on in these verses?
    • This is one of the letters Paul wrote to the Thessalonians. He reminded them of the work of the Lord he and his disciple companion, Silas, have done. He talked about the suffering they endured before arriving in Thessalonica; about how people were against them. The best part of this is: that God helped them to be brave and to tell of His Good News. They weren’t trying to trick people. They only spoke the Good News because God tested them and trusted them to do it. When they spoke, they weren’t trying to please people, but God, who tests our hearts.
    • The theme of this chapter of Thessalonians – Paul praises the Thessalonian believers for their spiritual maturity and perseverance, and he encourages them to further growth in view of Christ’s imminent return.
“The gospel he preached was without deceit, it was true and faithful. The word of God is pure.” Matthew Henry
  • What is God’s word saying?
    • I shouldn’t be discouraged by the suffering I will encounter. I trust God to help me be brave. I must endure through it and trust God to take care of my needs as I share the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus. I would hope that in God testing me, He will find that He can trust me to share the Good News. I want to only please God, not people.

Prayer: Dear ABBA YAH, I seek Your help in my walk with You in being brave to go out and share the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus. I pray that You test me and find that You can trust me to share the Good News. I want to only please You, YAH. I pray all this for all of Your children. I pray for unity in the church, the body of Christ. I pray for the lost souls to come to You, YAH. I pray for a world that is in chaos, to seek only You. I trust, adore, honor, glorify, and praise You, YAH! In Jesus’ name, amen.

The Good News – It Is Present With You Now Prt 4

Colossians 1_3-6 Prt 4 image

  • What is going on in these verses?
    • Paul wrote a letter to the Colossians in the form of a prayer where he thanked God for the Colossians for being such great servants of sharing the Good News and their love for God and Jesus. Paul appreciated their faith in Jesus and their love for God’s people. Paul encouraged them and let them know that the Good News was with them, even now. Paul expressed his gratitude that their faith and hope in the Good News was producing results and spreading all over the world. They came to know what God’s kindness truly meant.
  • What is God’s word saying?
    • My prayer is similar but more modern for today. My prayer isn’t just with my own work of Jesus, but for all of God’s children who are working diligently to spread the Good News of the Gospel, planting seeds of faith. It’s a great reassurance that the Good News is here with us now. Jesus is the Good News.
    • I will spend as much time as possible in the Word of God to learn as much as possible and be doctrinally and theologically sound about the Good News of Jesus the Messiah, the Savior of the world. I will seek God more and be His vessel, a temple of the Holy Spirit.
    • With Ressurection Sunday coming up; there’s much work to be done for the Lord. I’m putting my humanness aside so that the Holy Spirit can do His job through me.
  • Who’s with me? What will you do? What’s stopping you? Why is it stopping you? What will you change to make it happen?

Prayer: Thank You, God. Thank You for using me and allowing me to be Your vessel in spreading the Good News of the Gospel. I pray that I and all Your children will continually be diligent in planting seeds of the Good News bringing lost souls to You. I lift up all the lost souls to You and pray that the harvest is ready and we, Your servants and helpers, will be ready to go out into all the world to reap the harvest. I lift up the sick and hurting and pray that they find peace in You, God. I pray that You get all the glory, honor, praise, and love. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The Good News – Series, Prt 3

2 Timothy 2_8-10 scripture image

  • What is going on in these verses?
    • In my reading and research, I find that the book of 2 Timothy was a letter written to Timothy, a disciple of Jesus,  by Paul; to encourage Timothy in suffering for Christ’s sake. It was Paul’s comfort that God’s word was not bound. The Good News of the Gospel is, that Jesus was raised from the dead.
    • Next to the salvation of our own souls, we should be willing to do and suffer anything to encourage the salvation of the other’s souls.
This is the great proof of his divine mission, and therefore a great confirmation of the truth of the Christian religion; and the consideration of it should make us faithful to our Christian profession, and should particularly encourage us in suffering for it. Let suffering saints remember this. Matthew Henry
  • What is God’s word saying?
    • While it’s tough to go through suffering and hardship, doing it for the Lord’s sake makes it all worth it. It’s comforting to know and experience an unbound God’s word. There is nothing that can hold it down, nor hide it.
    • I need to be available to allow the Holy Spirit to work in and through me. My suffering for Jesus is nothing compared to the suffering He went through to become my Savior. I’m willing to endure suffering for Jesus to bring lost souls to Him so He can save them.

Prayer: Thank You, dear God, for the salvation of my soul and others. Use me, Lord. I’m here. I offer myself to You. I pray all of Your children will do so. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The Good News – Series, Prt 2

Mark 38_34-38 scripture image

“They shall not share with Him in His glory then, that were not willing to share with Him in his disgrace now.” Matthew Henry
  • What are the details in these verses?
    • I observe that Jesus is with His disciples and telling them that they must give up their own way, take up their cross [note: whatever is going on that seems to be unbearable life circumstances], and follow Him. If they don’t give it up and follow Him, they’ll lose their life [spiritual death]. For the sake of the “Good News”, they will save their life if they give it up [spiritually alive]. If they lose their soul, what good is having the whole world? If they’re ashamed of Jesus and the message of the “Good News” in these sinful times, Jesus will be ashamed of them when He returns in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.
    • It’s eye-opening to see how life is affected when I’m not following Jesus and not sharing His Good News. When I’m disobedient to Him, my life is in chaos and turmoil. Don’t get me wrong, there are still burdens to bear, but they either make me stronger in faith or weaker. I’d rather not lose my soul to the world. It’s not worth it!
  • How can this be applied in life?
    • I should not be ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
    • I need to share the Good News of the Gospel with lost souls.
    • I need to get out of God’s way and stop trying to control everything in my own way and understanding. My way is sorely lacking!
  • What changes need to be made?
    • Read His word more
    • Pray to Him ceasingly
    • Allow the Holy Spirit to pour over me and use me.
  • What actions need to be taken?
    • Share the Good News of the Gospel more
    • Basically, get out of God’s way!
    • Just Do It!

Prayer: Show me the way, God. Remove my blinders and let me see what You want me to see. Shove me out of Your way and use me for Your purpose so that the Good News of the Gospel can be spread to lost souls. Thank You, God. I pray that the readers of this devotional will move out of Your way so You can use them too. For those who are in the way, that is. Thank You, Jesus, for being the Messiah and being the Savior. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The Good News – Series, Prt 1

Isa-61_1-3 scripture image

  • What are the details in these verses?
    • I observe in this scripture that Isaiah the prophet is sharing about Yahweh’s Spirit and preaching the “Good News” to the humble. He is sharing that Yahweh sent him to proclaim the Good News of Yahweh and to proclaim Yahweh’s favor and to give them joy and praise that He may be glorified. The Good News is about Jesus coming to save God’s people.
The good news is about the living God overcoming all the powers of the world to establish His rule of justice and peace, on earth as in heaven. N.T. Wright, Simply Good News: Why the Gospel Is News and What Makes It Good
  • What is God’s word saying to me?
    • I find it amazing that Jesus is in and throughout the old testament. Discerning this in my reading will open my heart to God and the Gospel. Taking time from the daily grind and recharging by being in His word and listening to what it is saying will help me to be able to share the gospel with the lost and dead souls. I need to be available and not distracted by the world so that God can use me.

What about you? What do you observe in the scripture above? What do you discern God is saying to you in this scripture?

Prayer: Thank You, Yahweh, for Your word and speaking to me and those who read it. I pray that I and the readers of this will be open to hearing from Your word and helping us to apply what we learn to our lives and to be a vessel for You to reach out to the lost souls to bring them to You through sharing The Good News of the Gospel. I lift up our world leaders and pray that they will be proper leaders and not tyrants terrorizing the citizens. Thank You for Your blessings and promises in Your word. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Be Jubilant With Joy!

Psalm 68 scripture image

  • What are the details in these verses?
    • I observe that David sang and prayed a song of triumphant joy before God; singing praises to God; to His name and that God would appear in His glory. God is the God of widows, orphans, and the broken-hearted. God has relocated from God with us to God in us.
Those who rejoice in God have reason to rejoice with exceeding joy; and this joy we ought to wish to all the saints, for it belongs to them.
– Matthew Henry
  • What is God’s word saying to me?”
    • I need to show triumphant joy before God Almighty. I need to be praising and worshiping His holy name, YAH!
    • I need to remove all distractions and roadblocks. I need to “Just Do It!”

Prayer: Dear YAH, thank You immensely for who You are, for what You do and continue to do, and for your promises and blessings in my life and the lives of Your saints. I lift up the spiritually, mentally, and physically ill to You. I pray that whatever happens that You will be honored and glorified and that those who are ill will find peace of mind in You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

NOTE: Starting 4/4, there will be a new series leading up to Resurrection Sunday, called: Bringing the Good News. Watch for it!

His Weights Work!

Provers16 scripture image

  • What are the details in these verses?
    • In my searching and investigating I found that King Solomon wrote this scripture. It is an instruction to kings and leaders.
    • I observe that this scripture is referring to what’s right regarding weights and balances; being honest and wise. God’s weights work best. It’s better to be poor and honest than dishonest and wealthy. On the other hand, it’s better to get wisdom and understanding than precious metals.
    • Pride is destructive. Being humble is best. By watching what we do, we protect our lives.
  • What is God’s word saying to me?
    • Being dishonest and proud will only lead to destruction. It’s better to be poor and right than wealthy and dishonest. My plans will fail; every time. Why? Because the LORD decides what I will do in my life. Disobedience to GOD leads to chaos and destruction.
    • I need an attitude of gratitude and to live right according to God’s word. I need to be humble, not proud. That’s a tall order for us humans. Human nature has a bent toward feelings and emotions and wearing our hearts on our sleeves. Human nature has a bent toward sin.
    • I need to trust and obey God and His word/teachings. If I have any sin, unresolved, known, or unknown, I need to truly and earnestly repent and seek God’s forgiveness. I need to stop allowing my human nature to run my life. I need to allow the Holy Spirit to permeate every part of my being and do what He will do. I’m just God’s vessel in His grand plan and purpose. It’s tough, but it’s possible. I need to “Just Do It!”

Prayer: Dear ABBA YAH, I lean on Your everlasting arms. Thank You, God! I pray this for others too. I live up Your children to You and pray for healing and recovery, redemption and salvation. I pray for the backslidden and that they will come back to You. I lift up the lost souls for who You have plans for, that they will be saved at the right time without delay. I trust Your plan and purpose, Father God (ABBA YAH). In Jesus’ name, amen.
